Parihaka International Peace Festival 2009
'Tuia te kawe tairanga te kawe oi te kawe o te haere'
The proverb invokes a unison of us, like an out stretched sash swaying with the gait
of one walk as we move forward towards a new horizon and to our Parihaka 09 festival Event.
A Letter from the Director of Parihaka 2009.
Kaupapa. The Theme
We retain the theme for Parihaka 09 ‘Peace Justice and Eco Responsibility’.
Our call remains steadfast ‘Parihaka 09 facing the challenges, being a part of the solutions’.
Planning for 09
Planning for 09 is well underway and the festival dates are set for January 9-10-11.
Extensive work has started and will continue throughout the year to level camp grounds,
build new tracks, improve roads, open new camp grounds, fence and plant riparian
margins (water ways), level other festival site areas and build leisure props such
as seating and shade covers. Our Event management are busy planning the other
aspects of the event itself.
Tickets
Our ticket prices will not increase but a change is being made for those with children.
We have realised that adult prices for children up to 16yrs is often unaffordable.
Therefore we are offering the price of $10 per child from 0-16 years with the provision
that teenage children are accompanied by (an) adult/s.
Early-Bird Tickets
Our ‘early bird’ e-ticket has been launched on our website at $135 per adult,
$10 per child and $20 per kaumatua/senior (65+).
Once the ‘early bird’ season expires adult e-tickets will be $150. (children and
kaumatua/senior remain the same).
Gate sales will open on Thursday 8th Jan at $175 per adult. (children and
kaumatua/senior remain the same).
Camping
The ‘Camp ground fee’ will increase slightly to $20 per vehicle and $20 per adult
or Kaumatua/Senior (children will be free) We are placing an increased camping fee
on vehicles, adults and snrs to assist us in meeting the costs of campground
improvements and services.
Entertainment
As we announce the confirmed artists we promise nothing but the finest of Aotearoa
NZ acts with some surprise visitors. We will also have special interactive
performance/workshops aimed specifically at young people and facilitated by leading
performance artists.
We intend to retain and enhance the Main stage, the Visionaries stage and The Rongomau
Electronic Art Space and Dance Zone.
Forums
The ‘Tamaariki/Kidzone’ will also be getting a lot more attention, more fun, more
education and more effort for those young, young people.
The Healing, Speakers, Poets, Film and Eco Forums
These popular events are going to be better catered for. A lot of new guests and
presentation material will be introduced to the festival.
Leisure facilities and needs
We will cater well this time for ‘leisure facilities and needs’. There will be lots
of shade sails erected and more seating and relaxation area’s in place for your convenience.
A ‘golf cart shuttle service’ will run throughout the festival to help snr’s, tired
parents and children (and others) move about the entire festival site with ease.
Zero waste management
We are determined to perfect our goal for waste management. What we’d like from you
is that glass be left at home, and that you take your plastics home to your own recycling
plant.
